About

River's Edge Records' History

In the winter of 2003, local Rio Rancho band, The Plastics, recorded a Christmas record.  Brothers Brennan and Jacob, made the cover art and duplicated a bunch of CD-Rs which would end up being "Christmas in tha Old Neighborhood".  Brennan sold copies of the Christmas record for $2 a piece around Rio Rancho High School where he attended.  He named the operation River's Edge Records as a nod to the subdivision where he lived and recorded.

The next RER release, The Plastics' debut record, "Shopping for Meat?" was recorded at Brennan's house using a Fostex MR-8 multi-track recorder.  Brennan and Jacob pooled their resources to get the record mastered and order a pressing of 500 CD copies.

Many years later, River's Edge Records has expanded its operations into the Washington DC area where Brennan currently lives.  River's Edge Records is still defined by the DIY punk ethic that has been present since day one.

Although they have primarily been known as a punk label, River's Edge now also releases jazz and comedy records.
